Can You Put an Image in a QR Code? What QR Codes Can Store

What Goes Inside a QR Code?

QR codes store data as text: numbers, letters, and symbols. They do not store images, photos, or files directly. To "share" an image via QR code, you would first upload the image somewhere (e.g. cloud storage or a webpage) and then put that URL into the QR code.

What You Can Encode

You can encode URLs, plain text, contact details (vCard), calendar events, email addresses, phone numbers, SMS drafts, and Wi‑Fi credentials. Our generator focuses on URL, text, and Wi‑Fi—the most common use cases.

Limits on Length

The more data you add, the more modules (squares) the QR code needs, so it becomes larger and denser. Very long URLs are often shortened so the code stays simple and easy to scan.
